Pre menstrual Syndrome and Chinese Herbs - Safflower ( hong hua)

As we mentioned in previous article, Premenstrual syndrome effects over 70% to 90% of women before menopause in the US and less for women in Southeast Asia because of their difference in living style and social structure. The occurrence of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) have more than doubled over the past 50 years due to the acceptance of it as a medical condition that is caused by unhealthy diet with high in saturated food. Premenstrual syndrome is defined as faulty function of the ovaries related to the women's menstrual cycle, it effects a women's physical and emotional state, and sometimes interferes with daily activities as a result of hormone fluctuation. The syndrome occurs one to two weeks before menstruation and then declines when the period starts. In this article, we will discuss how Chinese herbs - safflower ( hong hua) effects women with PMS.

I. Definition
Safflower is a highly branched, herbaceous, thistle-like annual, usually with many long sharp spines on the leaves.native to Iran and Northwest of India. It has been used in traditional Chinese medicine in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and preventing atherosclerosis.

II. how Chinese herbs - safflower ( hong hua) effects women with PMS.

Hyperemia
Hong hua besides helps to reduce blood stagnation in the body caused by blood contusions, bruises and back and muscle pain, it also releases blood stagnation in the abdominal region causing menstrual pain and cramps. It also contains linolenic acid which helps to convert Omega 6 fatty acid to GLA then PGE1 that helps to balance the hormone production of members of the prostaglandins family and reduces premenstrual pain and cramps.

2. Circulation system

5. Palmitic and Cinnamic acid

Palmitic and cinnamic acid in the safflower also increase the function of immune system, thereby decreasing the risk of infection of the reproductive region and inflammation caused by irregular cell growth.
